I’ve never tried the Zoom virtual background. I just looked at it, selected ‘I have a green screen’ even though I don’t. Apparently my dimly lit basement is close enough to my skin color to work in an amusing way.

One reason dickbutt edits work so well and so often is that so many scenes of characters “reacting to the revelation” have a blank expression that can be “reinterpreted” as dismay and bafflement at a dickbutt. Acting is hard.

Acting is hard.

Clearly, since there are so many people who are bad at it, and the ones who do it well really stand out. I’m reminded of a scene in Rambling Rose where the doctor who has been abusing Laura Dern’s character tells Robert Duvall and Diane Ladd that Dern needs a hysterectomy. At first, Duvall is in favor of it, but then Ladd gives an impassioned speech against it, and you literally see Duvall’s mind change, just in the expression on his face. It’s really quite remarkable. Also, Laura Dern.
